Mick
Mick (only his mother called him Michael) was born in Brisbane in 1951 with Irish and Italian heritage. He grew up in Moolabar Street, Morningside in a Catholic family with his Mum Eileen, Dad Kev and brother, Steve in a war service home on a dirt road with no sewerage (Clem Jones fixed all that), with the local dump for a playground. After attending school at St Laurence’s, South Brisbane where he was elected school captain in 1968, he studied Agricultural Science at Queensland University.
He played rugby union with Brothers and Easts clubs in Brisbane, playing in the 1971 first grade grand final, going down to his old club Brothers.
With further study in geographical sciences and a Masters degree in regional and urban planning, Mick has spent his working life engaged in mapping soils, planning rural areas and protecting agricultural land from development. Some of the positions he held were Manager Land Management with the Department of Natural Resources and Director Rural Futures with the Department of Infrastructure and Planning.
He met Marilyn through Steve's girlfriend Andrea in 1974. They were married at Wootha near Maleny on 27 November 1976, raising two sons and a daughter at Maleny, Innisfail and Brisbane. Mick is now retired, a traveller, a swimmer, a cyclist, a reader, PapaMick to seven grandchildren and now lives with Mally at Boreen Point, Queensland.

Mally
I’m a baby boomer, the last child of Eileen and Jack Ramsay, childhood sweethearts from Hemmant, a forgotten Brisbane suburb down by Bulimba Creek.
My two brothers were eight and nine years old when I arrived. We lived at Coorparoo and Dad worked installing underground powerlines. I attended local Coorparoo State School and Cavendish Road High School before going to Queensland University to study speech therapy. Just after finishing uni I met and fell in love with Mick and we moved to Maleny, a dream come true.
Adam was born at Maleny while Josh and Liz were wet tropic babes born amidst sugar cane at Innisfail.
Back to Brisbane with baby Liz in the back of a ’76 Subaru we settled in the leafy western suburbs. I later returned to uni and studied teaching.
Currently I am retired (since 2012). Our state-wide service in support of students with disability is no longer needed!
I now have more time being grandma, maintaining a community garden, weaving wreaths and hearts and engaged with the local Boreen Point social committee.
